Why We’re Excited for MARVEL’S AGENT CARTER (TV Series)!

UPDATE: We’ve learned a great deal more since the original announcement, but most importantly we’ve learned that AGENT CARTER premieres January 6th (TONIGHT) for two hours…and boy/girl are we really REALLY excited!!! Share this post to make sure those you care about don’t miss out!

Marvel fans have something to rejoice about!

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has officially been renewed for a second season (not that we’re surprised after how kick@$$ it’s been lately). But wait…there’s more: in even more exciting news, the Agent Carter series is a GO!

…and we’re pretty excited! Here’s why:

Most likely filling the gap during Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. breaks, Marvel’s Agent Carter will take us back in time and draw our focus to Cap’s almost-girlfriend, (surprise) Agent Margaret “Peggy” Carter, as portrayed by Captain America‘s Hayley Atwell… She’ll be kicking butt and taking names as her dear Cap is off chilling somewhere, letting the love of his life do all the hard work. (See what we did there? Chilling…because he’s frozen for almost 70 years?)

Marvel had the following to say about it,

“Marvel’s Agent Carter,” starring Captain America’s Hayley Atwell follows the story of Peggy Carter. It’s 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life–Steve Rogers. Inspired by the feature films “Captain America: The First Avenger” and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” along with the short “Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter.”

And, oh to be young again! Last time we saw Hayley Atwell, she’d fast-forwarded quite a bit and donned “old lady makeup,” so we’re pretty excited about rewinding a few (several…many…70) years to see what we missed between Cap’s being frozen and his being thawed out and ready to go again! We’re also excited about exploring more of how S.H.I.E.L.D. became what it is today by way of Peggy Carter at the S.S.R. (Strategic Scientific Reserve) back when (SPOILER ALERT if you haven’t yet seen at least one of the two: The Winter Soldier or post-Cap 2 episodes of S.H.I.E.L.D.) they knew they were straight up fighting HYDRA…with none of this “secret organization within a secret organization” stuff that we have today. (END SPOILER ALERT)

Not only will MARVEL’s Agent Carter show Peggy making her own way in a time when women were thought to be less capable than men, but it will also (hopefully) make similar progress in our world today by proving MARVEL can (and should) have a female lead without the project failing hard (see Elektra). Much like Peggy can hold her own “in a man’s world”, this gives us hope for the future of female-led comic book movies (etc.)!

Long story short: we’re excited. Are you? Let us know why! We’d love it if you’d join the conversation on Facebook and let us know how you feel!
