If you were a child or interacted with a child any time in the last 30 years, then you know the word “NERF” and probably the NERF slogan too, “It’s NERF or nothing!” Maybe you’re a fan of the modern NERF revolvers, or maybe you remember searching high, low, and everywhere in between to find the coveted NERF Bow ‘n’ Arrow that was all the rage almost 25 years ago. Regardless of how familiar you may be with the NERF brand, chances are you’ve never seen anything like this.

What do you do when you have a passion for NERF guns and pop culture? You start your own business, of course! At least, that’s what brought us The Everyman Armory. NERF meets geek culture (finally) as craftsman Joshua Bohn–or as we like to call him, “Cap’n J”–has mastered the art of completely disassembling, painstakingly painting, detailing, and reassembling NERF guns to create unique masterpieces. His guns range from steampunk-inspired weaponry to carefully matched Borderlands guns. What’s more, he knows that his customers are, more often than not, con-goers, and convention security doesn’t take kindly to weapons that can fire, even if they do just shoot foam darts with rubber tips. That being said, one of the many services that The Everyman Armory offers with their weapons is decommissioning them to make them con-friendly.

One thing that Joshua does not have, though, is a business mind. That’s where his girlfriend Becca comes in. Once the customization process is through, Becca takes the finished product, photographs it, prices it based on the cost of the parts and the time spent, and lists it in their online shop, which she manages.
We sat down with the duo to discuss their shop, their process, and how they’re handling the Halloween season. The bottom line: there are plenty of pre-made guns in their shop, and they take custom orders too! Check out our video interview with them below, and see some more of their works under that.
Additionally, we’ll be giving away a mystery weapon from the Armory soon. Maybe it’ll be Batman-related… Maybe Borderlands… Maybe steampunk… It’s a mystery! What’s not a mystery though is that it’s definitely awesome. If you’d like to get a jump start on entering the raffle, you can snag two free entries by sharing our Facebook post for this feature and by re-tweeting our tweet on the same! (***Make sure you comment here to let us know you did your part! Thanks to Facebook privacy settings, we won’t necessarily be alerted upon sharing. Do you have more questions for Cap’n J and/or The Major? Do you want to make a purchase and/or commission a custom weapon? Head to The Everyman Armory Facebook page or The Everyman Armory Etsy shop to get the process started, and soon you and your custom NERF gun will be the talk of conventions, Halloween, and/or dinner parties! Check back often because their inventory is constantly growing!
***The Everyman Armory is also currently running a contest via their Facebook page to win an original Bioshock-inspired piece. The contest ends this Sunday at midnight, so hurry over!
