Star Wars fans rejoice (again), as the force is strong with… the LEGO Movie/Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs/21 & 22 Jump Street guys?! That’s right, directors Christopher Miller and Phil Lord will take us back to where it all started for our favorite scruffy-looking nerf herder Han Solo, as part of the Star Wars anthology series. Han Solo is going “solo” (get it?) in an origin story for our favorite space scoundrel (or at LEAST top 3), which is on the proverbial horizon from father/son duo and screenwriters Lawrence and Jon Kasdan (Lawrence Kasdan co-penned the screenplays for The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and The Force Awakens – not to mention, he wrote and directed Raiders of the Lost Ark which also starred Han Solo actor Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones).
“We’re so excited to be working with Chris and Phil, who will bring a fresh new dimension to the Star Wars universe,” said the Kasdans. “They’re two of the smartest, funniest and most original filmmakers around, and the ideal choice to tell the story of Han Solo, one of the coolest characters in the galaxy.”
Producer Kathleen Kennedy is excited to see what these two extraordinary teams can do when they combine their skills and make some space-magic together!
“It’s not just any filmmaker who can tell the story of such a beloved icon like Han Solo, and I’m excited to say we’ve found the perfect team to handle the task. Larry and Jon know all there is to know about the character, and Chris and Phil will bring their wit, style, energy and heart to tell Han’s story.”
The film will be executive produced by Lawrence Kasdan and Jason McGatlin and co-produced by Will Allegra with, as of right now, a May 25, 2018 release.
What do you hope to see from a film that’s meant to be all Han Solo all the time? Who would you like to see cast as the young scruffy-looking nerf herder? Join the discussion! P.S. Anthony Ingruber (who just portrayed a young Harrison Ford in Age of Adaline) has our vote! 😉
