Dear Harry,
My how the time has flown. It’s hard to believe that it’s been 19 years since you left Hogwarts. 19 years since we all were invited into the world of witchcraft and wizardry as you attended Hogwarts. What amazing things have happened because of that journey.
That moment when Hagrid showed up on the island to collect you on your 11th birthday! What a struggle trying to find Platform 9 ¾. How thrilling of an experience riding the Hogwarts Express! Seeing Hogwarts for the very first time! The nerves were palpable as you waited for the Sorting Hat to tell you which house would be your home! So many amazing moments. So many adventures.
It’s not hard to understand why we all felt like we were there with you. It’s a modern day version of The Neverending Story. As you had your adventures on Privet Drive, Diagon Alley, Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, and beyond, we were there with you. As you were having your adventures, we were having ours.
We were there at the bookstore waiting at midnight with our friends to get the books. We were dressed like our favorite characters, making new friends with the people around us who loved the boy who lived as much as we did. We were there at the movies for the midnight showings so that we could see this magical world we had pictured so many times in our minds.
I can’t thank you enough for letting me be a part of your world. For taking me along with you as you forged new and everlasting friendships, found your family (and yourself), cultivated your wizarding skills, protected and defended those you care about most, and ultimately found your purpose and followed through with it, no matter how impossible the task.
Here’s to the next 19 years. Here’s to lasting friendships on both sides of this story. To friends old and new. No matter how long we are away, or how many other things in life distract us, Hogwarts and this magical world will always exist. It will be there, quietly waiting for us to return, in our Room of Requirement. And because there are no better words to end this letter, I leave you with these.
“After all this time?”
“Always,” said Snape.
With love and adoration,
A Potterhead for Life
